- This is a great course if you want to learn some basic techniques that are useful in every day cooking. For example there is an easy way and a hard way to chop an onion in to small pieces, and Leith's provides you with a great method - a bit difficult to describe in a review, but once seen never forgotten. The course takes place across 10 evenings and in my case was made up of around thirty people, about 50:50 men to women. Strangely enough I met up with a friend of a friend on my work top of four people, which made the whole thing very sociable. So sociable in fact that after the first week, one of us would bring a bottle of wine along and Keith Floyd style we would share it out as the evening progressed. It's a practical course with some tuition at the beginning, in order to see how it's done, and then we all got on with it with pre-prepared ingredients to hand. Each evening we'd cover several cookery techniques - pastry making, boning a chicken, peeling a tomato - and then put the techniques we had learned in to practice. Perhaps the best thing of all was at the end of each evening we took home the meals that we had prepared, so at least once a week you get to eat well!

- Great course if you want to meet people as the teacher is a real character and gets the class all talking to each other. He also always serves up some food that goes well with the wine you are tasting that week...great cheese or pate. Had a lot of fun and would recommend to anyone that likes wine.

- Emily Johnston joined the course with AS levels in Business, Art and Design, Maths, and Psychology. Emily chose to study at SAC because she considered it to be a very encouraging environment to live and work in, and she also wanted to study away from home. In the early part of her studies, Emily has enjoyed the practical days and is looking forward to more in the next stages of her studies. She is also looking forward to the lifeguarding aspect of the course as this will open up opportunities for employment over the summer. Emily says "SAC has a really good atmosphere and is a great place to learn and have fun!"

- I chose SAC because of the friendly atmosphere and picturesque campus. I have thoroughly enjoyed the early part of my course, especially the practical approach to leisure which incorporates weekly trips to businesses within the leisure industry. I am particularly looking forward to the coaching aspects of the course and the outdoor pursuits modules.

- Louella chose SAC due to its location and size. "I didn't want to study in the confines of a city or be just another number in a hige lecture theatre. The rural recreation and tourism course combines breadth of relevant subject theory, practical skills and their applications with topical issues. I have enjoyed the range of subjects especially those involving land use issues and activities, such as diversification, countryside recreation, and outdoor pursuits management."

- Fab course because you get to eat at the same time. The teacher produces lovely pates and other things and you can see how well the food goes with the wine. I did it at Ealing and West London College but I think you can do this course all over London.

- I selected BCNH over ION and have just completed my diploma. The course is very intensive and hard work but what you get in the end is a top quality qualification to be proud of. I have dealt with other nutritional therapists from other colleges over the years. None come close to those trained at BCNH. The training focuses on evidence based nutritional and food therapy and encourages intensive research and excellent clinical practice.

- Studying at BCNH is interesting and flexible

- The BCNH modules are fascinating. They tend to be taught by an expert in the field, rather than by a more general lecturer e.g. the muskuloskeletal module was taught by an osteopath and the gastro-intestinal module was taught by a surgeon. This makes each lecture weekend quite unique and gives the students an opportunity to ask an expert questions and hear about the lecturers own clinical experience. The modules are well structured. There is a lecture weekend which you can either attend or catch up on at home by yourself as BCNH records all lectures and sends you a CD of the lecture plus copies of all lecture notes. There is then a theory seminar to make sure we understood the lectures and also a clinical seminar where we go through a case study. You are sent a workbook to do for each module which is good for making sure you understand the module. When the workbook is completed, BCNH send you model answers which you can use for exam revision. There is usually an assignment for each module too. In addition we have to complete "fact sheets". So far this year we have done 'psoriasis', 'Food allergies and intolerances' and 'Gout'. This builds up a portfolio which we will then have to hand out to clients when they visit us in practice. The Greenwich modules are all on-line or you can attend if you want to. The weekly workload varies on those. They are not about nutrition but about other complementary therapies or information we need to know such as statistics for healthcare professionals. Most Greenwich modules are 100% assessed which means there is no exam. The BCNH course is tough and demanding. It is hard work but then it has to be because when we are seeing clients we really need to understand what we are doing. The emphasis is on science and thoroughly understanding the mechanism behind everything. It is possible to complete this degree while also doing a full-time job which is great. The other students come from different fields and walks of life which makes it even more intersting and everyone works well together. I have made some good friends on this course.

- If you are looking for an interesting and challenging course in Nutrition, look no further! I am a first year student at BCNH after researching other colleges/ places of study. The course is scientifically and medically based - keeping you informed of the latest research and findings. It also goes 'back to basics' giving you the all important background knowledge you require. Highly recommended!

- I loved this course - you learn to make the most delicious and beautiful looking cakes and pastries. You really feel that you are producing professional standard food which would impress even the most discerning cooks. If you want to learn how do to things properly, in a hands-on environment then I would recommend this course. The group I was in was small (about 6 people) and friendly with people from all over the world, mainly women.
