- The BAcc course at Stirling is Fantastic! The degree covers a wide range of modules such as accounting, finance, tax and auditing. By the 4th year you know everyone on your course so having a laugh is guarenteed. In the 4th year, the department will help you find a 'proper job'. I found employers prefer the BAcc Stiriling degree to other uni's.

- Don't be put off by the fact that in your first year course there's over 200 students - its the same as any other first year unit. By the time you reach your final year the teachers will know you all by name and are there to help you every step of the way, even in your first year. The department is ranked 19th in the UK and 4th in Scotland for its teaching quality and the academic level of the course - quite an achievement for a university with only 6000 undergraduate students! Some of the staff can seem a little intimidating but others, including the careers link are worth having a chat to anytime because they treat each student as an individual with individual needs. You can't help but be enthused by the staff - its very obvious from the outset that each one of the departmental staff is very passionate about what they do and definitely know their stuff! First to third year at Stirling are pretty rigid but this is because of the professional accreditation given to the course (yet another reason to choose this fantastic course) but in your final year there is some flexibility with unit choice including the dissertation (a great learning experience by the way, if not a bit daunting!).
- Student facilities *****
- Whilst the buildings look like they were put up in the 60s and left there (they were) once inside the teaching facilities are state of the art including smartboards and projectors for power point in nearly every room! There are also several thousand computers on campus with many of the labs being open 24/7 so if there's a late night essay session or just time to catch up with those all important emails there will always be somewhere to go!
- Social life *****
- In 1st and 2nd year don't be surprised to see nearly 200 others in your units, some of them are even bigger, but come third and fourth year there will probably be only a handful on each unit, maybe even as few as 10 which is a great way to get to know your fellow students. The lecturers know that each student is an individual with individual needs so ask any questions you need answered, no matter how silly it might seem because they've probably heard them all a hundred times before and there's probably several other students wanting the same thing answered! SUSA (Stirling University Students Association) is the heart of the Stirling campus - its there you can get all the information on buses into town, when the student paper is out or what clubs and societies are available so make use of it in your first year - I didnt and I regret it! With over 80 nationalities, 40+ sports teams, and 40+ other clubs there's always something going on and if none of those take your fancy, set one up yourself, its easy peasy and looks fabby on your CV! Some of my best friends came from the University of Stirling and I know that we'll be in touch for many years to come so say hello to that person in the dinner queue, they're probably feeling just as shy as you, I did and that girl is now one of my best friends!

- Everything about this course is aimed at what you do in the workplace - not just theoretical stuff with no application. The main tutor is an ex exeminer and wrote the standard for part of the course - so if he doesn't know the answers no-one will. Generally tutors treat students like adults which suprises some school leavers who are not used to that. Often classes skim off at a tangent because of class discussion but tutors always steer back to the point of the lesson. The course is suitable for school-leavers, adults looking to retrain or anyone who wants to furtehr their career in accountancy. Just a bit of information - this course gives you an NVQ level 3 at intermediate level and is the only NVQ course to give you UCAS points - 120 in all at level 3. In theory you could be a chartered accoutnant within 5 years on this route - less than doing A levels, Degree and then Chartered qualifications!
- Student facilities *****
- Classrooms are fine - sometimes a bit overcrowded but that jst shows how popular the course is! Plenty of computers available in the LRC and there is also a good supply of text books to back up your class based learning.
- Social life *****
- For me, the other students made the course. I think we were lucky because we all got on so well but, generally, I think everyone in the college gets on well because everyone wants to be there. The canteen is (erm) interesting often referred to as the mystery machine because it's a mystery how food can taste so bad - but you can usually find something edible for lunch. My group spends a lot of time in there - but that could be because we are all caffiene addicts and we make too much noise for the LRC!

- The pace of the course is fast paced, but the teachers push you enough so that you want to stay on track. Don't be intimidated, it takes a little time to get used to everything.
- Student facilities *****
- The classroom setting is very conducive to learning: bright lights, smaller quarters that room approximately 30 kids which is just perfect. When the classroom size gets above that, attention spans of students tend to get smaller. It's just something I've noticed.
- Social life *****
- I love going to class. I love the whole business world. At first I wanted to go into medicine, but business is really my true passion.
