  • I love Mosaics
Hammersmith And Fulham Adult Learning And Skills Service
    Amanda, October 2006
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
I decided to do the course because I really love mosaics in general so I thought it would be nice to learn a bit more about it. What I didn't realize was that I would leave the course with two beautiful pieces. I ended up making a very pretty picture and a vase which have both been given to friends and family members as a present and they seemed to appreciate it. It is something unique and special because you're taking time out of your life to make it.

  • How to cut an onion
Leiths School Of Food And Wine
    Graeme, October 2006
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
This is a great course if you want to learn some basic techniques that are useful in every day cooking. For example there is an easy way and a hard way to chop an onion in to small pieces, and Leith's provides you with a great method - a bit difficult to describe in a review, but once seen never forgotten. The course takes place across 10 evenings and in my case was made up of around thirty people, about 50:50 men to women. Strangely enough I met up with a friend of a friend on my work top of four people, which made the whole thing very sociable. So sociable in fact that after the first week, one of us would bring a bottle of wine along and Keith Floyd style we would share it out as the evening progressed. It's a practical course with some tuition at the beginning, in order to see how it's done, and then we all got on with it with pre-prepared ingredients to hand. Each evening we'd cover several cookery techniques - pastry making, boning a chicken, peeling a tomato - and then put the techniques we had learned in to practice. Perhaps the best thing of all was at the end of each evening we took home the meals that we had prepared, so at least once a week you get to eat well!

    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
I thoroughly enjoyed studying law at the LSE. The professors are all experts in their fields and always made an effort to pass some of their enthusiasm on to us. I found that this made my learning experience highly enjoyable. Moreover, I found that our learning process was balanced and our progress was monitored carefully by our tutors.

  • FTC Kaplan deserves 10 Platinum stars!
    Kaplan Financial
    John, October 2006
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
I'm a full time student with FTC Kaplan at their Borough High Street branch. The lectures here are structured and intense but the tutors are only the best in the business! The course is structured to both cover the topic in detail and give you a revision course before the exam with additional assessments in between. The tutors know their stuff, most having worked in the industry for many years. Admin/Student support is also some of the best I've come accross!!

  • ... Saint Martin's, that's where I, caught his eye
Central Saint Martins College Of Art And Design
    sylvie, October 2006
    Overall rating *****

I L.U.R.V.E photography. Bruce weber rocks! My all time fab video = pet shop boy's "being boring", beautifully shot by weber! I used to love my Polaroid 1200si. Then for last Christmas I bought a mega groovy digital camera: a mega sexy... Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W7 to replace my old pentax slr. but oops, my Sony Cyber-shot is a tad bit complicated and I couldn't suss out the manual overdrive. So I enrolled on a digital photography evening classes @ st martins school of art, london! I hasten to add, st martins runs two related digital photography evening classes: the first session covers shooting photographs using your camera while the second session covers manipulating digital photographs in Photoshop. So please ensure you enrol for the right session! Walking into the building you can't help have a sense of awe... st martins has produced the coolest art talent ever. The tutors @ st martins were inspirational, enthusiastic and v fun. My class mates were a stimulating mixture of cool cats who wanted to use their camera for work and those who just wanted to produce groovy digital images for fun. It was a v fab evening class to take but my only downer was a slight feeling of hi-tech inferiority lol! My class mates all had the hugest-ever, mega expensive digital SLR cameras which dwarfed my almost trailer-trash compact camera. For digital photography evening classes in London.. st martins rocks! Thanks tutors... you were sweeties!

  • Great introduction to printmaking
Central Saint Martins College Of Art And Design
    susan, October 2006
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
This is a great course if you'd like to try different types of printmaking and don't mind getting your hands dirty. You are shown various printing methods, such as monoprinting, monodrawing, and colourgraphs and you can then use them to work on whatever you want with guidance from the course tutor. I really enjoyed this course, the class is small enough to ensure everyone got time to talk with the tutor and the teaching forcussed on the printing methods; so you are taught 'how', not 'what', to print. This was good for me as it meant we could work on our own ideas rather than being given set projects. This course does not include more complex printing techniques such as screen printing or etching so if that's what you're interested in you might be better off with a more specific course, but if you're for a good introduction to printing, or you have printed before and you would like to continue your work using the facitlities at St Martins, then this is a great course to try.

  • Pleased to do Pilates
    South Thames College
    Helen, October 2006
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
I?ve never been a great fan of exercise classes and every time I?ve had a go at aerobics classes, I given up after the first couple of sessions. I wanted to do to do some form of stretching/toning exercise however, and so I signed up for the Pilates class at South Thames College, where I discovered an altogether calmer, more relaxing and rewarding experience. I knew very little about Pilates before I started the class but I?d heard about the toning benefits and that it could improve posture. As a complete novice, I was worried that I?d be forced to contort myself into strange yoga-like positions, but the teacher was terrific and was very gentle with the beginners. In fact the teacher?s enthusiasm and knowledge (plus her patience) were to a great extent what made this such a fun and rewarding class. I was by no means a natural and some of the more advanced exercises took me a while to get to grips with, but I felt noticeably more relaxed and supple at the end of each class. It was great to attend an exercise class that was relaxed and where you could take things at your own pace but which also really seemed to make a difference.

  • Screenprinting for the first time
Putney School Of Art And Design
    Drew, October 2006
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
The first half of the course is structured so that I could experience a range of stencil making techniques within the non-photographic and the photographic spheres. Beginning with autographic (non-photographic) stencil making, we dealt with paper stencilling, direct stencilling using wax crayon / liquid filler and wax resist. We then moved on to learn about the different ways of making a photographic stencil, through the use of hand drawn positives and photographic positives. Practising with these methods was great for planning a print. We also covered setting up your workspace, ink mixing / colour mixing, paper handling, monoprinting and editioning. The second part of the course was more structured around the individual application of these techniques. Together we worked towards strengthening our image making skills. Now that I have attended the All Levels class, you intend to join the ?Advanced screenprinting? class. You could study one of the other printmaking disciplines, either etching or lithography. Enrolling in one of the digital media courses, such as ?Photoshop? or ?Desktop Publishing? would be useful, as they also output to print.

  • Spaced out
    City Lit
    Saira, October 2006
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
I thoroughly enjoyed this weekend course offered by the City Lit and picked up some new skills as well. Not knowing what to expect from the course, I went along with an open mind and to try a different approach to drawing. The course involves life drawing but instead of looking at outlines of forms, you are encouraged to look at the volume or space taken up by the form. This is a lot harder than you would assume. You desperately want to draw in edges but by only thinking about volume, the drawing emerges slowly and (surprisingly for me) looking three-dimensional. In addition to drawing through observation, you also cast a couple of objects. Through this process you "feel out" the volume of the object, this helps later on when you come back to drawing the objects and the casts. The tutor was good; I think her own work is produced in this way and she is enthusiastic about this approach and also teaching it. The class size was reasonable ? there were 10 of us in the class. And it was attended by both artists and amateurs like me, so I recommend it to anyone (I think it runs twice a year but check the college website).

    Course content *****
A great short course that touched on all of the basic skills in image manipulation. I was more advanced than the rest of the class as i already had some experience but the tutor made the class really work by setting class exercises and then setting specific more advanced tasks for me which kept me engaged. Highly recommended

  • A Bird's Eye View on Language Teaching
    London Metropolitan University
    Khin, November 2006
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
To start with, this course cannot be referred to as cheap for students from third world countries. Still you can have partial or full scholarship for tuition fees. Just be an early bird. You will meet people from all over the world and learn their culture. But don't make hasty comments on their clothing and style because it is different from your culture. Every culture has its own value and uniqueness. You will learn about languages in society as well as the societies that apply those languages. You need to look beyond your language classrooms and see what other important things you need to know besides the the teaching methods you learned before. We need to learn theories, which other people have observed spending a long time, to be practised in our classrooms as suitable to our purpose and learners. It takes less time than observing the classes and materials on your own and more effective as well. The bank of theories lies just ahead of you. Make use of it for your smooth and easy career of building up the future of young global citizens.

    Course content *****
This course was so cheap that I had to choose it over all the others available. I am so glad that I did. I finished it a couple of weeks ago and it has proved so useful that I have been able to help with the redesign of my company's website. Mike (the teacher) was really great and I found the structure of the course to be really easy to follow. They also had the latest Dreamweaver 8 software on their Macs and I was really impressed with all of the facilities. Definately do this course.

  • MBID at LSHTM
London School Of Hygiene And Tropical Medicine
    Marc, November 2006
    Overall rating *****
    Course content *****
The MBID course at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine was one of the most interesting and rewarding courses I have ever attended. The course offers a broad and detailed introduction into Molecular Biology with a focus on Infectious Diseases. The lectures are brilliantly structured and generally delivered by experts in the respective fields. Also, there are plenty of useful practicals throughout the course, during which hands-on experience can be gained. The course also allows you to chose between different study modules as you progress though the year, which allows you to consolidate your knowledge in areas you are particularly interested in (e.g. Immunology, Parasitology or Virology). The course is well organised and the teachers are very dedicated and supportive. In addition to this the LSHTM is a great place to undertake postgraduate studies and offers a true international environment. The School offers a very friendly environment and is a great place to exchange ideas and make friendships with people from across the globe. I can highly recommend this course to anyone with an interest in molecular biology - it provides the ideal basis for further studies or research (e.g. PhD) in this and related biomedical fields.
